When full, the base expands and the canteens are able to stand by themselves. If you put clean water in this, you can drink directly from it.

When you receive the canteens, you'll need to rinse them out with clean water. After this, you are able to drink directly from the canteens.

Rinse with warm water and dish soap, be sure to wash out the dish soap. Then leave to hang folded half on a hanger like a pair of pants for a day or two to dry.

No, it doesn't come with a filter. But the canteens, both sizes, have a 28mm thread on the cap and are able to attach to our Straw filter.
